Today’s “Ask Me” comes from Carrie. Carrie wanted to know how the heck I grow my hair so long, even with hair loss (note: she doesn’t have hair loss herself and was just curious!).
I do feel that 90% of it is luck. I’ve always had no issues growing out my hair, and growing it fast.
(In fact, I always thought if I could somehow cut my hair in half and then apply the cut half to my scalp I’d be in a really good place!)
I know many women with hair loss experience a lot of breakage as their loss progresses since the hair loses strength over time. I haven’t experienced that quite just yet. Although, the hair right next to my ears could be starting to as that hair is a bit shorter on both sides (about chin-length).
That product is a shampoo, and I’ll include my affiliate link to the Pura d’Or shampoo on Amazon. I last purchased it 18 months ago, so it lasted quite a long time!
This shampoo helps to block and wash away DHT (an androgen), which is known to cause hair follicles to miniaturize and lead to hair loss.
Maybe this allows my hair to stay healthier longer, and therefore grow to lengths it wouldn’t if I didn’t block DHT?
Who knows.
But I’ll keep using it because it’s easy and if it helps even just 1%, I’ll take it. 🙂

How often do you wash your hair? Every other day? Just curious… I go every other day most of the time, but try to extend to the third day if I can. However, since it is so fine and thin my hair can get pretty greasy especially after wearing my topper. I know washing your hair doesn’t make it fall out any faster, but some days it just feels like it. I was curious what others do. Thanks!
Usually every 2 days (is that how you say it?). So if I wash Monday, I’m ok Tuesday, then Tuesday night I douse my head in dry shampoo to get me through Wednesday. 🙂 Haha.
My hair and scalp are just the opposite – very dry – I can go almost a week without washing it. My Dermatologist prescribed a shampoo for scalp inflamation (which can also cause hair follicles to die) called Ketoconazole Shampoo 2%, it’s prescription. She wanted me to use it 2-3 times a week but I am graying and have to color my hair and the color tends to strip much faster with this shampoo so my vanity made me stop using it. I stopped using it for about 6 months and noticed a marked increase in shedding. Mind you, I don’t know if it is was because I stopped using the shampoo or because I was using more coverup which may clog I believe also causes shedding. I just started using the shampoo again and I have noticed the shedding is a little less so maybe there is something to it or it could just be coincidence. Often it’s trial and error………
Rosemary oil. Makes it grow like weeds. Doesn’t help with loss, though.
