For styling products, I highly recommend products that are formulated for helper hair. The other stuff just doesn’t wash out and can coat your hair and degrade its life – yuck.
If you’re looking for a great styling creme and hairspray for your pieces, look no further than Jon Renau Piece Out Contour Fiber Creme and Jon Renau Holding Spray (spray for synthetic only).
Watch me demo the creme–you can see how it adds definition and texture to my topper. Yea!
Hi Lauren – You have so many good tips for us topper wearers. I’ve learned so much from you on how to care for them. Today, after watching the above video, I now understand I’m not alone in discovering that the toppers eventually go flat (which makes it look like fake hair – horrors)! I thought it was just my topper! I purchased the Jon Renau Piece Out Contour Fiber Creme you mentioned and I love it! It really lifts the hair and now the topper looks like natural hair again. I can’t thank you enough for all the research you put into synthetic hair use. These tips are invaluable.
I finally found a Raquel Welch wig with a full bang. I’ve always worn a full bang my entire life, and am not about to change now. Since my hair is a golden blonde, and the wig is a sand blonde, pale yellow with platinum, I wanted to ask you what I should use to make roots. I ‘don’t want unrealistically dark roots, so would you recommend a light brown or yellow marker, or light blonde eye brow “mascara”, or even powdered matte eye shadow in varying shades of brown?
For years I wore the clip on pony tails and these were great, but with sudden hair loss in front especially at my bangs, I’m totally bummed out.
I know you love your side swept bangs, bout could you do a few articles about wigs/toppers with full bangs, please?
Hi Marciann – I look horrible in full bangs, so you may not see anything with bangs on me since I purchase most of my own products. 🙂 But, maybe at some point! I’d probably try rooting with some varying shades of eyeshadow or Joan Rivers Great Hair Day-type powders. Maybe a dark blonde type of color at the roots? I definitely wouldn’t go yellow!
